Jazz
The Pakula Karayorgis Quartet is one of Boston's finest jazz groups. The band plays mostly original compositions along with a few jazz standards by Lennie Tristano and Thelonious Monk. They are characterized by their energetic approach and fresh sound. Their style could be describes as a merging of Bebop and free jazz that results in a rare and refreshing synthesis of compositional and impovisational styles.
"In a period when mere imitation often masquerades as homage in jazz, it is encouraging to find young musicians uncovering personal solutions through the use of historial approaches. (They). . . apply their own grit and logic, adding depth and shadow without breaking the musical flow, as if Tristano had met Thelonious Monk." --Bob Blumenthal, The Boston Globe.
