Irish
Before U2 and the Cranberries, there was Planxty, the seminal Irish group. It was from this group that the entire renaissance of Irish music emerged. Liam O'Flynn is one of the founding members of Planxty and an internationally acclaimed artists in his own right.
Liam has won world renown for his masterful command of the uillean pipes. The artistry unleashed in his recordings and in his live music has created a demand for his talents. He can be heard on such film soundtracks as A River Runs Through It, The Field, and Cal. He has been featured on albums Kate Bush, Enya, The Everly Brothers and Mary Knopfler. His own recordings have garnered him a slew of awards including the Irish National Entertainment Awards for his contribution in honoring traditional Irish music.
One of the more unique performances Liam does is with his good friends and Nobel laureate Seamus Heaney. Together they play music and recite poetry. Heaney has written that Liam is ". . . a master at ease in his art, taking pleasure in the sheer act of music making."
