Original jazz and standards. The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra gave its very first performance as a Christmas benefit in 1973. The program consisted of carols from around the globe and original music by founder/director Mark Harvey. Since then, Aardvark has continued to explore eclectic repertory and to give many benefit concerts. The Annual Christmas Concert has been termed "an ongoing Boston jazz tradition" by the Boston Globe.
Aardvark Christmas CD: Just released, _An Aardvark Christmas_ has many live pieces from previous Christmas concerts. Ranging from lyrical vocal settings of Appalachian and African-American carols to the calypso flavored Virgin Mary Carol, to swinging versions of O Come, O Come Emmanuel and What Child is this?, Harvey's original-Gloria in Excelsis Deo, and a rowdy New Orleans' brass version of Jingle Bells make for a very different holiday recording. The cd will be available for purchase at the concert and also may be purchased at Filene's Basement, Downtown Crossing and Tower Records, Boston and Cambridge.
