World Music
Zap Mama features five stunning female singers who are devoted to the vocal traditions of the world. Led by Zairean-born Marie Daulne, this energized Afro-European quintet sings inventive a cappella songs inspired by Pygmies, Hindus, Aborigines and numerous other disparate cultures. With whistles, chants, uvular clicks and even coughs and sneezes, they recreate African landscapes, bird-filled forests and a myriad of vistas of the imagination. Zap Mama combines beautiful five-part harmonies sung in a multitude of languages with playful theatrics and energetic dances to create a spellbinding performance.
"Zap Mama rejoices in beauty of sound." -- Boston Globe
