Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys

"It may be time to change the category for this hot band to Cajun/Zydeco. In the past couple of years, the Playboys have surprosed audiences by turning in hot sets of Clitton Chenier-style Zydeco. To achieve the sound, Riley picks up the triple row acordion, and David Greeley trades in his fiddle for a saxophone. Although Cajun bands have always played Creole and Zydeco tunes, none have ever turned on a dime to offer such a radically different sound. Expect to hear expert versions of prairie style twin fiddle tunes from this versatile outfit, one of the best Cajun bands in the land." -- Count Basie in the 1997 Gambit JazzFest previews
