The Oldfield Woodwind Quintet

The quintet formed six years ago when four of the members met while playing in the New England Conservatory Chamber Symphony. Since then they have played at the Conservatory and at First and Second Church in Boston.

The members practice a variety of professions yet find time to study and perform in many musical settings. Newton resident and bassoonist Jonathan Kay has performed in the United States, Canada and the former Soviet Union with orchestras and wind ensembles including the Harvard University Wind Ensemble, the Bach Society Orchestra of Harvard-Radcliffe, the Longwood Symphony Orchestra and the Brookline Symphony Orchestra. He is a rheumatologist at the Lahey Hitchock Clinic in Burlington and is on the faculty of Harvard Medical Scool.

Oboist Carol Louik has performed with the Symphony Orchestras of Brookline, Longwood, and Newton and the Boston Bar Association Orchestra. She participates in chamber music ensembles at the Composers Conference in Wellesly and at the New School of Music in Cambridge. Louik is an epidemiologist at the Slone Epidemiology Unit and a faculty member of Boston University School of Public Health.

Clarinetist Larry Sheinfeld has performed with the Berkshire Symphony, the Cape Cod Conservatory Wind Ensemble and other orchestras. A writer, painter and photographer, he currently teaches art and photography at Bedford High School. Chris Sklarin, horn, plays chamber music at the Composers Conference in Wellesley and has performed with the Concord Band, the Metropolitan Wind Symphony, the Brookline Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. He is a software engineer.

Carol Thomos, flute, is a member of the Cambridge Symphony Orchewstra and has performed with the All Newton Music School Chamber Orchestra. She is a lawyer and is actively involved in arts programming in west suburban schools.
