Big-band
The band was formed in 1991 to perpetuate the work of bassist/legend Charles Mingus. Using arrangements by Mingus, Mingus alumni and others, the 16-member band performs every Thursday in The Time Caf‚ in New York City and draws on a rich pool of premier talent that loves to play in it. The group's latest CD, Gunslinging Birds, on Dreyfus, was nominated for a Grammy in 1996.
The band includes: Ryan Kisor, Steve Slagle, Vincent Herring, John Stubblefield, John Smulyan, Earl McIntire, Clark Gayton, Andy McKee and others.
