Hong Kong Dragon Club

With a name echoing Cuba's Buena Vista Social Club, The Hong Kong Dragon Club is a loose affiliation of studio musicians in Hong Kong, who play sessions for a living and have informally dubbed themselves by their group name for after-hours jamming. Producer K.K. Wong gave their work a more formal context by bringing them together to record Take Out, on which a mixture of traditional Chinese and modern Western instruments were used to play jazz arrangements of traditional Chinese songs. The album was released in March 2000 on the Xien label. William Ruhlmann
