Drummer Allen has performed with George Coleman, Jackie McLean and Freddie Hubbard. Their influence can be seen in his latest recording, Testimonial, on Atlantic Jazz, on which Allen combines jazz with gospel music. His strong quintet includes Vincent Herring (as), E. J. Allen (tp), Xavier Davis (p) and Reuben Rogers (b).
