Atlan achieves the highest level of precision and creativity, making them the most influential traditional group to emerge from Ireland in decades. With fiddles, acoustic guitar and bouzouki to the fore, Altan alternates jigs and reels with the haunting ballads of lead singer Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. Altan's trademark double fiddle sound features a dynamic weave of Mhaonaigh's airy and rhythmic Northern approach and Ciaran Tourish's stronger, almost modern, bluegrass touch. Their complementing styles are supported by one of the best traditional rhythm sections in the business with Daithi Sproule on guitar, Dermot Byrne on accordion and Ciaran Curran on bouzouki. Altan is touring in celebration of Blackwater, the group's seventh album and first on Virgin records.
