Luciana Souza
Latin Jazz

Vocalist Luciana Souza, originally from Sao Paulo, Brzil, attributes her musical influences to her parents, Bossa Nova innovators who performed and wrote numerous hit tunes recorded by Joao Gilberto, Elis Regina and Hermeto Pascoal.

Souza began her recording career at age three with a radio commercial and recorded more than 200 jingles and soundtracks. She arrived in Boston to attend Berklee College of Music in the mid- 1980s and continued her studies at the New England Conservatory of Music where she received a master's degree in jazz studies.

In 1993, Souza formed her quintet, performing to sold-out audiences at the Regattabar in Boston, throughout the Northeast and in Brazil. A creative and dynamic vocalist with an understated style, Souza's repertoire includes original material and arrangements of various jazz standards stamped with her unique interpretive approach.
