It is a well known fact that Elvis Presley's (the King of Rock & Roll) birthday falls on January 8th. It is a slightly lesser known fact that Jimmy Page, the creator and mastermind of Led Zepplelin and arguably the Greatest rock band ever, celebrates his birthday on January 9th. Given that England is six hours ahead of Tupelo, Mississippi, these two musical icons could have been born on the same day!!

It is an almost unknown fact that a strange, yet supremely talented group of musician calling themselves Dread Zeppelin played their first gig on January 8th, 1989 (or 1956, if you believe lead vocalist TORTELVIS, but if you do, you'll be hearing stories of alien abductors, exploding Ford Pintos, otherworldly weight gains and bizarre parentage).

Elvis, Jimmy and Dread Zeppelin all being born on the same day?!! Truly serendipitous!

Since that all-hallowed day in 1989 DREAD ZEPPELIN have released four full-length albums worldwide, have starred in several videos (including their clip of Heartbreak Hotel that appears regularly on MTV's Beavis and Butthead show), have appeared in the motion picture National Lampoon's Last Resort (playing themselves naturally) and have toured the world several times including stops in such exotic locations such as Argentina, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia and Japan

Combining outlandish costumery, a tight and shredfestual musical approach and conjuring the charisma of three kings (Elvis, Zep and Bob Marley), Dread's stage show has become a favorite worldwide. Indeed, Kerrang Magazine (UK) were so moved after a DZ performance that they proclaimed the band "The greatest covers band ever . . ." and Robert Plant himself, lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin, admitted that he preferred Dread's version of Your Time is Gonna Come to the original.

Dread Zeppelin' fronted lead singer TORTELVIS, is described as a cross between a Vegas era Elvis, Dracula and Liberace! Tortelvis is always accompanied by his faithful manservant CHARLIE HAJ. Charlie quietly wipes the brow of the "Pompadoured Butterball" and keeps him in fresh towels. Guitarist BUTT-BOY is a tall, scary man with an obvious secret agenda. Bassist FUZZY BUZZMAN, a geeky reggaemon, is a darn good player, and along with drummer SPICE are often mistaken for killer reggae rhythm section, Sy and Robbie. Anchoring the whole thing together is percussionist and vocalist extraordinaire, FERNADEZ, twin brother of former DZ percussionist Ed Zeppelin.

Attention!! Dread Zeppelin's latest album The Fun Sessions is out on the streets! Tortelvis and the boys have decided to tackle the "Classics." Have you ever heard Smoke on the Water, Light My Fire and Freebird done inna reggae style? Well, now's your chance. This thing's a hot seller at Dread's live shows!
