With a brand new album on Rykodisc entitled The Charity of Night, Canadian singer-songwriter Bruce Cockburn is once again enjoying the success of many of his earlier albums. Cockburn believes that The Charity of Night, his twenty-third album (and first on Rykodisc), is something of a turning point. For a man with thirteen gold and three platinum records in Canada, as well as ten Juno Awards (the Canadian counterpart to the Grammy), thats quite an assertion.
Appearing with Cockburn on the album. which he co-produced, are vibraphonist and Berklee's Dean of Music, Gary Burton, drummer Gary Craig, and bassist Rob Wasserman. Along with this core group, Cockburn invited special guests, Bonnie Raittt, Patty Larkin, Bob Weir, Ani Difranco, jonathan Brooke, and Maria Muldaur. Commenting on the completion of the album Cockburn remarked, "In a sense, these songs are all part of a longer conversion, but the conversion is not about me, its about our shared experience. And it has to be true. I'm not just singing a bunch of stories I made up."
