Karate
Alternative Rock

Home Page:http://www.southern.net/southern/band/KARAT/

Blending ecstatic pieces of punk rock tunes with wondrous post-rock marks, Karate marks their own territory within the enrapturing fields of alternative pop/rock. Forming in 1993 in Boston, MA, Karate first counted on with a trio led by guitarist and vocalist Geoff Farina, along with drummer Gavin McCarthy and bassist Eamonn Vitt. Following one year of constant rehearsal sessions, the band played their first live show in December of that same year. In 1994, the crew offered their first single, Death Kit, eventually enjoying an enthusiastic return within the local music scene. Jeff Godard, Karate's fourth element, joined the squad in 1995, therefore permitting Vitt to move on to second guitar, while he took on the bass duties. Still in 1995, the band released their second 7" disc, a split recording with the Lune, titled The Schwinn. Karate, the band's first full-length disc showed up in 1996, again confirming the group's better recognition throughout the Boston alternative music scene. A year later, In Place of Real Insight, the squad's second major recording, hit record stores shortly before Vitt left to pursue a medical career. Bed Is the Ocean appeared in 1998, and two years later it was time for Unsolved, the band's fourth album. The EP Cancel/Sing showed up in March of 2002; Some Boots appeared six months later. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges, All Music Guide
