Global Divas brings together three extraordinary women from diverse cultural settings and celebrates the contributions of female musicians worldwide. Stella Chiweshe is hailed today as one of the world's foremost players of the mbira, a metal-pronged thumb piano, with lulling, chiming melodies and rich multi-layered rhythms. Susana Baca, a Peruvian singer of African decent, creates wonderfully complex music that captures her two cultures with a gorgeous voice and fresh interpretations. Singer-songwriter Tish Hinojosa draws on her Mexican-American heritage for her unique Southwestern blend of folk, pop and country/western swing.
