Synopsis: This controversial film follows the vicissitudes of a middle-aged teacher afflicted with a psyche that suffers from every aspect of the Soviet system and human behavior in general. His response: to fall asleep. In a film within the film, a doctor grieves for the death of her husband. Her response: to attack everything and everyone around her. THE ASTHENIC SYNDROME sketches a culture in a state of confusion, a kaleidoscopic vision of a society in decay, and a painful picture of human detachment and world imperfection. Though admittedly bleak, it has an intensity that will penetrate your soul - an indescribably moving experience.
Russian with English subtitles.
