Synopsis: With the technological breakthrough of sound on film, Vertov wished to integrate his theories of the "kino-eye" with the "radio-ear." By applying to sound sequences the same principles fo montage which he had develped in frame sequences (composed synchronously or contrapuntally with the image-sequences), he created a complete sound-image alphabet in which both sounds and the manipulation of the frame determined the sense of a filmic unit.
