Synopsis: Jerry Maguire (Tom Cruise) is a man who knows the score. As a top agent at SMI (Sports Management International), Jerry is unquestionably master of his universe.
Jerry is handome, charming, and devoted to his glorious client roster and stunning fiencee Avery Bishop (Kelly Preston), an NFL publicist whose schedule-intensive approach to sex and relationships is matched by her professional ambitions. Trouble is, Jerry's mind, mouth and soul are usually on automatic pilot. He's good at friendship, but (as his numerous ex-girlfriends testify) bad at intimacy. In fact, there's absolutely nothing wrong with Jerry Maguire that a sudden dose of failure can't cure. This Man With a Mission Statement is fired by SMI after an ill-considered act of honor: his writing of a stirring, visionary suggestion for SMI's glorious future entitles "The Things We Think And Do Not Say: The Future of Our Business." Jerry statement (written spontaneously on an off night) makes the idealistic conclusions that the company should focus on real caring for fewer clients, quality rather than quantity. People and not money are what really count. A week after issuing his mission statement, Jerry is unceremoniously fired. Stripped of his job his self-respect and a good measure of his identity, the tenacious but hanging-by-a-thread Jerry is forced to start from scratch. He's joined on his journey to redemption by two unlikely allies: Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.), a second-tire wide reciever for the Arizona Cardinals who, as Jerry's sole remaining client, stakes his own unstoppable desire for the first-tier fame and fortune of his failing agent; and Dorothy Boyd (Renee Zellweger), a wistful 26-year-old single mother who, inspired by Jerry's Statement and recognizing his potential for full membership in the human race, willingly departs her accountancy posiion with SMI for a very uncertain future with her new boss.
International stat Tom Cruise stars in the title role in Jerry Maguire, a new romantic comedy from director/writer Cameron Crowe and Gracie Films. Produced by James L. Brooks, Richard Sakai, Laurence Mark and Crow, Jerry Maguire also stars Cuba Gooding Jr. (Boyz N The Hood, Outbreak), Renee Zellweger (The Whole Wide World) and Kelly Preston (From Dusk `Till Dawn, Junior).
