Synopsis: This beguiling meditation on vision, power and Aufklarung (the German word both for "enlightenment" and "aerial surveillance") centers on a historical accident. In April 1944, U.S. bombers flying over Poland inadvertently photographed Auschwitz. But since the British evaluators were told only to look for military targets, they didn't 'see' the camps - though it was known what they really were. The pictures were buried in files until the 1970's, when a couple of CIA clerks stumbled on them.
