The musical heritage of the Motor City is well-documented. Giants like Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross lived there and it is where the Motown sound was born. Thornetta Davis grew up listening to her mother's blues musical collection which included Johnny Taylor, ZZ Hill, Etta James and Bessie Smith.
Thornetta has developed her awesome vocal prowess to where her sound is described as a sort of Aretha Franklin/Janis Joplin/Bonnie Raitt hybrid. She is the reigning diva of the Detroit blues scene, has won numerous awards and accolades and even opened for her artistic influences - Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight and Etta James.
In the Motor City everyone knows about Thornetta; it's time for the rest of us to catch up. She is a Sub-Pop recording artist with a new release Sunday Morning Music.
