Synopsis: Grand Jury Prize Winner of the 1995 Canne's Film Festival, Ulysses' Gaze stars Harvey Keitel as a Greek film director who embarks on a Homeric quest to find three long-lost film reels shot in 1905 by two pioneer Balkin filmakers. His journey takes him to Albania, Bulgaria, and the former Yugoslavia. The film is both a heart-felt tribute to the centennial of cinema and a comment on the beginning and end of the century, using the setting of the war-torn Balkans as its landscape. Along with Keislowski's Decalog and Antonioni's Beyond The Couds, Richard Corliss of Time Magazine caled Ulysses' Gaze one of "Seven Terrific Films You May Never Get To See." Commenting on its recent New York premiere, Janet Maslin of the New York Times calls it, "A true work of poetry," and J. Hobberman of The Village Voice writes "Triumphently Visual!" Dont miss this limited engagement at the Brattle as this film makes it's way to select theatres around the country.
