Synopsis: This richly textured social comedy focuses on a wedding engagement dinner that brings together the groom's citified family and the bride's rustic and rather gauche relations. As the banquet progresses, decorum falters, jealousies flare, and improper advances are made and sometimes rejected. Set in 1936, at the height of Mussolini's power, the film provides a sometimes farcical, sometimes nostalgic look at Italian society on the verge of upheaval.
