Synopsis:
An elderly doorman is driven to end the humiliation he fells aftet being demoted from head doorman to lavatory attendant. A trivial anecdote of human despair, becomes a truly tragic drama through the unique collaboration of three talents: F.W. Murnau, whose moving camera captures every glistning surface in the enormous hotel lobby; Carl Mayer, whose brilliant script tells the story without printed titles; and Emil Jannings, whose virtuoso performance dilineates one man's descent from pomosity to servtude with harrowing insight.
