The Israel Philharmonic's history is linked with that of Israel itself. Originally known as the Palestine Orchestra, its name came with Israel's independence. The current tour celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. Many of the greatest conductors of this century have led the Orchestra which is now under the directorship of the incomparable Zubin Mehta.
