Synopsis
In a vast baroque mansion, a man (Albertazzi) tries to convince a female guest (Seying) that they had an affair the previous year. Resnais rejects a chronological structure, fusing memory and imagination, past and present, desire and fulfillment, creating one of cinema's most haunting and erotic poems. The cryptic screenplay, stylized palying, organ music, tracking shots down endless corridors, and decor by Jacques Sauliner combine to create unforgettable images.
