Arete, a duo composed of Lisa Hennessy (flute), and Melia Repko (harp) has performed throughout the New England area at Radcliffe College, New England Conservatory, the Museum of Science and other venues. In August, they will perform at the First Babptist Church Coffee House Series in Rockport.
Flutist Hennessey is an active performer of new music and has premiered and recorded works by John Harbison, Robert Maggio, Luciano Berio and others. As a member of the American Sinfonietta, she toured Germany and Austria. Winner of the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, Hennessey currently teaches in the Boston area and performs with the Indian Hill symphony and Just in Time Composers & Players.
Newton resident Replo, harpist, performs with the Lexington Sinfonietta, the Longwood Symphony and the Auros Group for New Music. A proponent of new music like her partner, she has premiered and recorded works by Harbison, Michael Colgrass and Malcolm Peyton; composer Daniel Pinkham dedicated his Divertimento for Trumpet and Harp to Repko and trumeter Alex Schmauk. She has attended the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland, the Grand Tetons Orchestral Seminar in Wyoming and the Salzedo School in Maine.
