Synopsis
This crowd-pleasing lesbian tale comes froma sister director/writer from Texas. The story is set at Eleanor B. Roosevelt High School in the middle of suburbian America, where nothing is out of the ordinary - the teachers are nerdy, the students are horny and the principal has a proverb for every education. This not-so promising place for love takes a 180-degree turn with Dinah Groshardt the geometry teacher (who lecutres to her class that "love is elusive - mathematics available") falls in love with Carly Lumpkin, a married school secretary. When Carly falls in love right back, it's cause for confusion, celebration, and condemnation from the community. The culmination is a wedding complete with basketball, poetry, dancing the twist and the two brides decked out in white satin. Ultimately, Late Bloomers is a story about ordinary people challenged by extroardinary love. An audience favorite at last year's Boston International Festial of Women's Cinema and this year's Boston Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, this is the suprise feel-good film of the fall.
