Synopsis
Set in 1930s Los Angeles, this `70s film is the best Raymond Chandler-Dasiell Hammett narrative mode. Nicholson plays a private eye who gets tangled up in murder and city politics, a water works scandal and a very attractive, but mysterious widow.
