Synopsis
A lavishly furnished chamber piece that literally takes place in one room; against a wall covered by Titan-like reproduction ot the naked at play, a bitter romance, rife with issues of domination and control, is played out to the strains of Vivaldi and The Platters. The camera never ceases to surprise, lurking behind posts, hiding the 'real' in mirrored reflection. Fassbinder darkly concludes that even when such affairs end, "it would be far to optimistic and utopian to believe, as many do, that someone who has docilely obeyed others for thirty years can suddenly choose to be free."
