Winner of the Special Grand Prix at the 1995 Montreal Film Festival, and one of the most successful Norwegian films in over twenty years, Kristin Lavransdatter is a monumental 14th century epic of ardor and passion adapted from Sigrid Undset's 1928 Nobel Prize winning novel. Beautifully shot by Sven Nykvist, Ingmar Bergman's favorite cinematographer, Kristin Lavransdatter combines the realism of historical drama with the splendor of a romantic fable.
