Synopsis
An account of the monstrous conditions of life in the poorest district of Northern Spain, "Las Hurdes," not far from the Portuguese border. The film has a special significance in the Burnuel canon, for it marks the shift from the overt surrealism of his early films to a direct transcription of reality, which fuels the spirit and style of his later work.
