Synopsis
Academy Award nominee (tm) Leonardo
DiCaprio (What's Eating Gilbert
Grape?) stars in a dual role as
French King Louis the XIV and the
enigmatic title character. Academy
Award (tm) winner Jeremy Irons
(Reversal of Fortune) and Academy
Award (tm) nominees John Malkovich
(In the Line of Fire, Places in the
Heart) and Gerard Depardieu (Cyrano
de Bergerac) play the legendary
Three Musketeers, Aramis, Athos and
Porthos, respectively, while
internationally acclaimed actor
Gabriel Byrne portrays their famous
friend and former Captain
D'Artagnan. Also starring are Anne
Parillaud (La Femme Nikita) as the
Queen Mother, Anne of d'Autriche,
and Judith Godreche (Ridicule) as
an unfortunate young lady who
catches the King's eye.
It has been many years since
Aramis, Athos, Porthos and
D'Artagnan fought together as the
bravest and best of the King's
Royal Guards, the Musketeers. Louis
the XIII, the great King whose
throne they served has died and
been succeeded by his arrogant and
cruel heir, King Louis the XIV.
Only D'Artagnan still wears the
uniform of a Musketeer, keeping his
blood oath to defend His
Majesty...no matter what. Now,
these brothers-in-arms embark on
their most glorious (and dangerous)
adventure. But they soon realize
that their mission to save their
country from ruin may lead to the
destruction of the very throne they
serve and the loss of their
life-long friendship. c 1998 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.
