It's 1958, the year of seismic world changes - the Hungarian Revolution, Sputnik, Elvis Presley and the New York Giants' departure from their home field at the old Polo Grounds - but the only thing on fifteen-year-old David Katz's mind is the summer he must spend at Camp Ararat, an Orthodox Jewish camp in the Poconos.
A movie buff, he would rather spend his days inside cool, dark theaters. In the tradition of Stand By Me, CAMP STORIES is a nostalgic comedy of childhood adventure filtered through the prism of adult experience. Armed with personal charm, a healthy disrespect for authority, and the answers to any dilemma from his vast knowledge of old movie dialogue, Katz leads a motley group of underachievers through the timeless dramas of adolescence in this period comedy drama.
Shot in an Orthodox Jewish Camp in Massachusetts and starring such well-nown figures as Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld) and Elliott Gould (MASH, The Long Goodbye), the film, with its lively, klezmer-influenced score, is a dramatic evocation of this particular time and place.
