Shot on video and later transferred to film, BREMEN FREEDOM is an adaptation of Fassbinder's theater production of the same name, based on an authentic event in the history of Bemen in which a well respected townswoman murdered 15 people over several years. Fassbinder's interest is not in the crime but only in the motive - the desperate and extreme ways a woman pursues her freedom in the grip of bourgeois oppression.
