Synopsis:
Recent winner of Toronto's Hot Doc award for best politcal doctumentary, Bitter Paradise is a riveting examination of what has been described as the worst per capita genocide since the Holocaust - the butal invasion and colonization of East Timor by Indonesia. The film traces the politcal journey of Canadian photographer Elaine Briere from the villages of East Timor to the halls of the United Nations in an effort to discern Ottowa's rationale for sacrificing the tiny nation of East Timor to corporate interests in Indonesia.
