Synopsis
This powerful feature from Peoples Republic of China has won miltiple awards world-wide and was the official entry for both the Golden Globe awards and the Academy Awards in the "Best Foreign Language Film" category. The biggest box office hit in China of the year, Red Cherry is a dramatic tale of the survival of two Chinese orphan teenagers set in the 1940s war-torn Russia. The story follows the lives of Chucho (Guo Ke-Yu, winner of the "Best Actress Award" at the Shanghai Film Festival) and Luo Xaioman (Xu Xailo), students sent to Russua for protection from China's Communist revolution. When the Nazi's invade and sieze control, their lives change dramatically. What follows is a poignant tale of youth and innocence, survival, and the connections and misconnections between war and humanity. The film is based on true accounts of Chinese communists who lived in Nazi-occupied Russia during World War II.
