Synopsis Considered too controversial for wide release, Asya's Happiness was not even seen by critics until 1977, when it was screened at the Moskow Film festival. It was banned from theatrical release by Soviet censors for 21 years, and re-emerged in 1988 to critical acclaim. The story centers on a beautiful youn independently-minded woman who, while working on a collective farm, happily awaits the birth of her illegitimate baby.
