Synopsis
Bill Gunn's extraordinary foray into the realms of black consciousness has acquired deserved status as an African-American cineam classic. Gunn uses a traditional film genre, the vampire film, to creat a mythical vision of the forces which shape his central character, Dr. Hess Gree. Gunn's film suggests much about yearning, about the conflicts between Christain myth and African spirituality, about men, about Blackness and bout sanity and survival in a culture fire with saints and monsters.
