Jamaa Fanaka produced, directed and wrote the remarkably effective inner-city drama Black Sister's Revenge. Jerri Hayes plays a young, na‹ve black girl from Georgia. She grows up way too fast when she relocates to LA, where she ends up keeping company with gang leader Ernest Williams II. After a series of humiliations, Williams dumps Hayes -- a bit of callousness he'll come to regret when she lashes back with flailing fists. What could have been just another blaxploitationer is elevated by the film's strongly pro-feminist slant. And never mind that "come one, come all" title: it's just that the film did better business as Black Sister's Revenge than it did under its original name, Emma Mae. Hal Erickson
