Given the copycat mentality of Hollywood in the 1970s (and the 1980s and 1990s, for that matter), it would have been a surprise if someone hadn't made a film called Black Godfather. The heroes are members of an African-American criminal organization. Like Brando in The Godfather, they're not averse to robbery and murder, but they do draw the line at narcotics. When the Mafia infiltrates the 'hood with dangerous drugs, the Black Godfather (Rod Perry) orders his minions to put an end to this perfidy. Boasting a talented (if largely unknown), all-black cast, Black Godfather occasionally rises above its genre expectations. Hal Erickson
