This Filipino monster madness from producer-director Eddie Romero, features the ubiquitous John Ashley -- the closest to a recurring "star" these cheesy South-Seas horrors ever managed to get. This is actually the first of three gory monster thrillers taking place on the notorious "Blood Island." The plot (if you want to call it that) involves a band of silly-looking blob monsters mutated by radiation testing -- including Mario Montenegro as a plantation owner who turns into a lumpy, over-padded rubber creature whose sole interest seems to be the molestation of half-naked island girls (who don't seem to mind) whom he then devours whole. Ashley lumbers in to combat the slimy menace, accompanied by fellow "B"-movie stalwart Kent Taylor (the former "Boston Blackie"). This drive-in staple was followed by two "official" sequels, Mad Doctor of Blood Island and Beast of Blood, and one "unofficial" installment, Al Adamson's Brain of Blood. Cavett Binion
