Steamroller and Violin/Ivan's Childhood
Genre:Unclassified
Rating:?

The Steamroller and the Violin:
Rarely seen, this film was Tarkovsky's graduation film project at the Soviet State Institute of Cinema. In this tale of the friendship that develops between a scorned and bullied child violinist and a steamroller driver can be perceived many of the seeds of Tarkovsky's future work.

DIRECTED BY ANDREI TARKOVSKY
(Russian w/English subtitles, color, 35mm)

Ivan's Childhood:
Tarkovsky's first feature0length film profoundly depicts the Second World War as seen through the eyes of a young partisan who risks his life as a courier on the front. The sensitive use of landscape to reflect the mental state of the characters and lyrical dream sequences foreshadow the director's later, highly oneiric, cinematic achievements.

DIRECTED BY ANDREI TARKOVSKY
(Russian with English subtitles, bw, 35mm)
