Herzog's love of vast (and mystical) spaces, especially deserts, took him to Australia's Outback. In a story that has increasing resonance for indigenous people around the world, he explores the struggle of a group of aborigines against a mining company which plans to bulldoze grounds the natives consider sacred: the place "where the green ants dream." Herzog said of this film, "For me as a filmmaker, this film is a very, very great step forward, like RASHOMON for Kurosawa."
