Weather Diary #5/Trick or Drink/Nam June Paik: Edited for TV
Genre:Unclassified
Rating:?

Weather Diary #5:
The latest "chapter of the remarkable Weather Diary series" finds Kuchar observing his personal, social, and natural environment with wry humor and introspection. "Set in central Oklahoma in May, I spend 3 weeks in a motel and get talked at by a small weather radio that seems to rule my life. I, myself, get to talk at the lady who runs the motel and who runs a cosmetic empire downtown. The viewer gets to see her equipment and her corner of the world as storms lurk somewhere off-camera waiting to enter stage left and bring down the house. This is one of the more social installments of the weather diary series." (Licjar))

Trick or Drink:
Adapted from a performance of the same title, this courageous video fuses autobiographical material with information about how an alcoholic family perpetuates addictive behavior. Based on the artist's personal experience the work is both touching and funny as it incorporates elements of AA meetings, photo montage, and a disjunctive narrative style.

Nam Juen Paik: Edited for Television:
Produced for public television, this provocative portrait of the artist, his work and philosophies, features an interview of Paik by art critic Calvin Tompkins and an ironic commentary by host Russell Connor. Taped in his Soho loft, with the multimonitor piece Fish Flies on Sky suspended from the ceiling, Paik elliptically addresses his art and philosophis in the context of Dada, Fluxus, the Zen Koan, and John Cage.
