Synopsis: Kenneth Branagh continues his Shakespearean love by tackling the lead in one of the most often produced works by the Bard. Shot in 70 millimeter and clocking in at just under four hours, "Hamlet" is an epic work featuring such luminaries as Gerard Depardieu, Charlton Heston, Kate Winslet and Robin Williams.
This is a four-hour, full-length version of the classic Hamlet, and actor/adapter/director Kenneth Branagh gives the words a fragilely melancholic understanding that makes it one of the film's most finely delivered lines form a play fraught with many famous utterances. (Among them, "To be or not to be," here done passably, and "Alas, poor Yorich," done so perfectly) with the aid of, believe it or not, Billy Crystal as the Gravedigger - it might be called the platonic form of all its renderings.
