Synopsis: Lasse Hallstrom gives us a story about a boy who is experiencing more than his share of growing pains. Ingemar (played by the remarkable Anton Glanzelius) lives with his elder brother and sick mother until he is sent away to live with relatives. He keeps his disintegrating family at bay by focusing on larger problems like a railroad disaster in which six people are killed. The only thing that Ingmar allows himself to worry about openly is the fate of Laika, the Russian space dog, who is starving to death as he orbits earth. The film is based on an autobiographical novel by Reidar Johnsson.
