A Happy Mother's Day
Credits:Directed by Richard Leacock and Joyce Chpra (bw, 16mm)

Synopsis: Leacock pioneered in the documentary genre with his method of "direct cinema" - the American equivalent to Rouch's cinema verite - which used lightweight, portable field equipment to render an unobtrusive, subtly critical view of life in the United States (and elsewhere). This film deals with the events surrounding the birth of quintuplets to the Fisher family of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and the towns desire to capitalize on the event. Leacock camera reviels a feverish micocosm of enterprise, and the wonderful, quiet humanity of Mrs. Fisher herself.
