Synopsis:
The ultimate example of pure cinematic oneirism, this film was rediscovered in 1970. Without intertitles, it demonstrates Kinugasa's unique cinematic sensitivity in depicting the inner world of insane people, confined in a lunitic asylum. The recurrent hallucinations and distorted reminiscences are vusualized through a masterful employment of cinematic devices, combining montage, expressionist lighting, and impressionistic shot composition.
