Synopsis
A seminal influence on the writers of The Best Generation Paul Bowels is one of the most revered and elusive literary figures of the twentieth century. A native of Long Island, he has lived in Morocco for the past 40 years. In this surprisingly revealing film (filmed on location in Tangier) Bowless speaks about his writing and marriage to Jane Bowles (a talented writer and lesbian whose death is still shrouded in induendoes of "Black Magic" poisoning), his own use of drugs, and his writer and musician friends, including William Burroughs, Tennessee Williams and Gertrude Stein.
