Park City, Utah has become best known for the infamous Sundance Film Festival (which gained notoriety in 1989 when this director's small independent film called sex, lies, and videotape left a strong impression on audiences and critics alike). This year another Park City film event has drawn public attention - Slamdance (billed as the alternative to Sundance and a constant thorn in the glitzy festival's side). Schizopolis, perhaps a bit too edgy for Sundance, went right over to Slamdance and, once again, Soderbergh is in the spotlight. Most efforts to describe the film in any concise way have failed but we believe Kay Armatage of The Toronto Film Festival did it best... "Made as guerrilla project, with Soderbergh as writer, director, cinematographer and star, this film leaps into a territory we expect only in the avant-garde: narrative disjuncture, Brechtian intervention, Dadaist provocation, volleys of ironoc, philosophical and social commentary, iconoclastic visual and verbal jokes, speeded-up action, comic sound effects, you name it. I'm telling you, this is Anarchy."
